Outside of golf Trump knows little. This is all Putin’s ideas.

Even in and bout Golf Trump knows very little. That's why he is continually being caught cheating.

Do you give any credence to a more sinister interpretation---that Putin and company have been planting seeds in Trump's brain for several years about this? That breaking up NATO and relations between the US and EU is the bigger goal here? One article I saw on some of this is here: https://america2.news/the-russian-roots-of-trumps-venezuela-and-greenland-operations/. I would like to see additional support or critique of this from other sources.

I’m thinking Trump tying himself and the Republicans to Project 2025 is probably his worst idea ever. Of course that would indicate Trump has an an actual thought process which is open to debate.

Again, you make too much sense. Maybe if the Vikings had called Iceland , “Greenland” and Greenland “Iceland”, Trump would not be interested in “Greenland”. ( My understanding the Viking mis-naming was the old attempt to lure settlers to Greenland back then.) Bob Langfelder

I agree Congress should pass that law, Professor. And I too believe it will pass.

The question is whether they will find the political will to consider - let alone - pass such a law. And even should Congress pass such a law, would the courts uphold it (including the Supreme Court)?

That is the real - and pernicious - consequences of polarization in a democracy.

I knew invading Greenland would be a terrible idea but now know of extra reasons which alone should veto it. But sadly I reckon Trump so likes acquiring things and feeling powerful I reckon he will be seriously tempted. I also have no confidence in anyone around him having the judgement, let alone the moral courage to try to stop him....at least not very hard.

Would a command to invade a NATO ally be considered an illegal order by General Caine? It certainly would be immoral.

Trumps threats to seize Greenland are as delusional as his pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize. Having Stephen Miller as his messenger on this issue shows the Republican leadership that Trump is losing control of American foreign policy and perhaps the White House as well. Miller’s message was alien to anything the American people stand for. Removing Maduro was a good thing. Helping the Iranian people rid thenselves of a tyranical regime is something the US, Israel and the rest of the civilized world should support. It is the very best opportunity to make the world a better place that we have had in a very long time. We should be laser focused on making that happen. So let’s not squander that opportunity and stop this utterly foolish, ridiculous talk about Greenland.

Robert Kagan’s 2016 article, “This is how facism comes to America”describes what we are currently experiencing. Trump is destroying democracy in the US and now wants to do that abroad. Every time Trump opens his mouth he tarnishes the reputation of the US. Congress is going to have to find the courage, absent so far, to restrain him.

Add Stephen Miller into the conversation! Trump is a brilliant grifter, but he is a lazy thinker. Someone is writing all his posts; can you imagine Trump editing his dictated messages? No way.
