About James Goldgeier
James Goldgeier is Professor Emeritus of International Relations at the School of International Service at American University, where he served as Dean from 2011-2017. He is a research affiliate at the Center for International Security and Cooperation and at the Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, both at Stanford University, and he is a non-resident fellow at the Kennan Institute.
He has served on the National Security Council staff, as chair of the State Department Historical Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Secretary of State’s International Security Advisory Board. He has authored or edited six books, most recently Evaluating NATO Enlargement: From Cold War Victory to the Russia-Ukraine War, which he co-edited with Joshua R. Itzkowitz Shifrinson.
