In 2020, I was berated by many for writing this sentence in a Washington Post opinion piece:
"Vladimir Putin is evil."
I stand by my claim. The piece was about my friend, Alexey Navalny.
Read the oped and judge for yourself if I was overdoing it:

I’m so sorry for your personal loss.
Know there are millions of us that mourn with you. 🌹
Even if it is established that he died of a heart attack, slipped on a bar of soap, or shot himself twice in the head with a bolt action rifle, it's clear who murdered Aleksey Navalny: the same people who tried to murder him before.
Anybody want to support Putin now? Tell me again why it's a good idea to negotiate with someone like Putin, or to urge the Ukrainians to negotiate with the Putin regime. Tell me why it's a great idea to deprive Ukraine of the military aid it needs to enable its survival. Anyone who falls within the power of the Putin regime is lost, and so are we, if we do not support Putin's victims.
