Trump made a huge mistake attacking Canada with punishing tariffs. While some version of CUSMA will probably be renegotiated, Canadian citizens would prefer to trade with Europe and other countries until the Trump era is history. We’ve come to realize that economic independence is more important than the easy economic friendship we have enjoyed for the last 35 years.

That’s because MAGA stands for Make America Go Away, which is exactly what a Putin stooge would do.

Ambassador McFaul, can you please explain why your colleagues at the Hoover Institution, namely Niall Ferguson, HR McMaster, and John Cochrane, continue to defend every single thing Trump does, including his outrageous remarks and behavior at Davos (see Niall Ferguson’s recent essay in The Free Press)? Please explain why these three men are eternally loyal to a President who is destroying the very fabric of our world right before our eyes, destroying our alliances, destroying our trade agreements, and dangerously isolating us and leaving us weak and vulnerable? Those three “GoodFellows” are supposedly intelligent and well educated, and yet they are increasingly and unrelentingly becoming stupid as a practical political matter. I really, really wish you would talk about this, because it’s incomprehensible to me. Are they stupid, or are they MAGA? Worse yet, are they just milder versions of JD Vance?

Sorry to interrupt this thread, but Michael has a new bot account:

I have reported this to Substack. Now I’ve received 3 different bot accounts from these losers. All 3 were different people/accounts. All 3 taken down by Substack. Michael’s is pending because I just reported it. Substack will email me when it’s taken down.

Edit: already taken down!! I ❤️ Michael and Substack.

Just a single comment, when Mr. Trump implied that our NATO allies did not "fight" in Afganistan, I was angry and ashamed. Mr. Trump's behavior is disgraceful and regardless of what Sir Neil Ferguson said, Mr. Trump did not win at Davos. Just the rambling thoughts of an old hermit. (Hope I haven't upset anyone. )

Took me a few days to carve out some time to watch this, but just did and it was as worthwhile as I expected. Thank you. My continuing, constant angst is that the "wrong people" - those who can be expected to agree - watched it. The "wrong people" read what is written by Joyce Vance and Heather Cox Richardson. I don't see how agreement nodding of enlightened, educated, and fundamentally decent heads can "move the needle." It seems like the only thing that ever penetrates "the bubble" is when a white, gun-owning male, gets murdered by ICE.
