My condolences…to you and to, well…everyone. While it’s easier to be distracted by the current occupier of the White House making the world gaudier, uglier, and more indecent, it’s far more consequential that the world became a more dangerous place the minute Trump came down that escalator.

I deeply appreciate your work, but disagree on this one. Ask yourself why Putin wanted this deal renewed in 2021, and the answer is simple. These treaties benefit America's adversaries more, especially since China isn't included in them. Russia and China only respond to strength; the only real way we can deter them is by having a bigger and modernized nuclear arsenal.

I’d prefer arms control with both China and Russia. But you may be right.

And the only way for former US allies to ensure they are protected by a nuclear umbrella is to build their own. The pleasant fiction of US coming to the rescue is over for middle powers. This is unfortunately destabilizing in the short term, but necessary to prevent wars of aggression in the future. The one possible bright note would be that as the world realigns, lines of communication on trade, security, and culture could lessen the possibility of wars of miscalculation. One can only hope.

A very special memory of when the US was a responsible and respected democracy!

Consider this: when people are desperate to exonerate themselves or snatch a reward, how could they possibly still care about their nation?🫠

Julia, You’re assuming that once upon a time he cared about this nation, but

no one who has done what he’s done to us could possibly care about anyone but themselves. As Michael

(below) said, the world will become a

much more dangerous place because

of how DT is handling this, and there is no excuse for it.

The real estate, and other business deals, is all that matter to this corrupt administration. We will all pay the price.

I am afraid that the world will start seeing the reintroduction of "tactical nuclear weapons." We will begin seeing them deployed on submarines, warships, and hyper-sonic missiles. The world will become a much more dangerous place. Just the rambling thoughts of an old hermit. (I hope I haven't upset anyone. )

Yes, it's condolences all around. We all lose mightily here.

This is only because President Obama’s name is in the document and Trump put a deranged wet brain drunk in charge of the most lethal military on the planet.

I don't believe al those wonderful steps foward came to nothing when they did proceed after less hopeful people have walked down a darker road sine then. I have an unverifiable sense that traces of that brilliant, hopeful work will remain in our shared cosmic DNA...regrouping in it's unique way. But then, I am an aging Nurse-midwife rather than a world scientist. Thanks for all your continuing brilliance. Elaine Brightwater

I would feel better about it if I didn’t know he’s upgrading the underground bunker at the White House.

And now can sell nukes for a tidy sum to his remodel America program. BTW, I think my fraternity brother, Jim Cieslak. Was married to Rose for a few years. He is a former Marine and American Airlines pilot. Grad of Northwestern U.
