This article is short and sharp, yet incisively effective. It hits Ukraine's pressure points while diagnosing America's ailments, tracking every current event without missing a beat. Well-reasoned and evidence-based, its voice is soft but its impact potent.🥰
Ukrainian anti-corruption supporters had a very narrow escape, and unfortunately, there are plenty of people in President Zelenskyy's party, and within Bankova itself, who will continue their attempts to put the brakes on anti-corruption efforts.
In that spirit, I would like to recommend a recent article in the Financial Times by Christopher Miller entitled, "The Polarizing Power of Andriy Yermak, Ukraine's Other Wartime Leader" ( https://on.ft.com/3H3skQJ ). It gives a good inside view of the political dynamics at play in Zelenskyy's inner circle, and in some ways may be seen as a cautionary tale.
Yes indeed, the Ukrainian small d democrats are role models. And I read about other Ukrainian democrats who visit US congresspeople to advocate for supporting Ukraine. That must be a bit of a moral dilemma, as they watch some of those congresspeople turn around and enable Trump's corruption. You are right—we have a lot to learn from the Ukrainian d's.
It’s as if the US is on one escalator willingly descending into authoritarianism as Ukraine is on a parallel one ascending into what we are abandoning, Democracy, the Rule of Law and associated norms. For this “WOKE” “Marxist”, aggravating and infuriating. Slava Ukraini
Congrats to the Ukrainian people ! One wonders, through, if Zelensky would have backtracked, if the EU hadn't threatened to stop aiding Ukraine. No such pressure on Trump in the US...
In the 1960’s, when I was in middle school, I remember being inspired by Americans willingness to protest. Protesting the Vietnam War, as one example, undoubtedly helped to move decision makers (however slowly). I see lots of online protest. Numerous podcasts daily protest the criminal enterprise being run out of the Oval Office-by a convicted criminal and an insurrectionist who has permanently stained the moral authority of the presidency! The No Kings Protest seemed to indicate an insurgency could develop but it didn’t last. My hopeful fantasy is that voices of moral authority in the US (like Barrack Obama as one example) will call Americans to take back the “people’s house” and eject the current occupant (a squatter who doesn’t deserve to be there). I imagine one million Americans peacefully crashing the gates of the White House and dragging the criminal-in-chief from the Oval Office to be arrested by the Capital Police so disparaged by Trump’s pardon of the January 6th insurrectionists.
Ukrainian ... what? There is no democracy in Ukraine. They ban importing books in Russian, which is a travesty given that most of Kiev still speaks Russian as a mother tongue. They grab property from the canonical church. I am not even talking about ТЦК - those horrible videos of men hunting on the streets of Ukraine are not something we expected to see in 21st Century. Google a YouTube video "Ukraine Recruitment Horror: Army Hunters' Terrifying Act | Gas-Filled Car Set Ablaze to Coerce Men".
Sorry for typos in the earlier text. We accidentally posted the penultimate draft.

We miss people like you in the government. Maybe someday.
