Thank you for your steadfast voice of reason and compassion. It is really hard to hold the nightmare reality emerging on this planet. It is difficult to be from the west (Canada) and feel daily that none of us are doing all we can - in Ukraine, Georgia, Iran, others - to support people willing to die for the rule of law and democracy. I hope, as PM Carney suggested, that the middle powers will find their voice and a strong arm, to protect and see through to victory the hopes of these peoples. Some of us have young grandkids - one day they will be asking us tough questions, as we did of our parents re WWll.

This might be considered a silly question, but what will the United States accomplish by bombing Iran again? In 1988, the United States Navy conducted "Operation Praying Mantis," resulting in the sinking of two ships and three boats of the Iranian Navy. This operation was a result of the USS Samuel B. Roberts hitting a mine in international waters. The Robert was part of "Operation Earnest Will" the 1987-1988 effort to protect reflagged Kuwaiti oil tankers! Of course Mr. Trump and Secrataary of Defense Hegseth told the American people that the Iranian nuclear program had been destroyed following "Operation Midnight Hammer." So, once again I ask why is Mr. Trump considering military strikes on Iran? Just the rambling thoughts of an old hermit. (Hope I haven't upset anyone. )

Once again, the U.S. considers the military option. And once again, that military option may bring far reaching political consequences for both Americans and for non-Americans.

This is how most of the world views America today, Professor.

They no longer view America through the suitcase, or even through burgers and rock-and-roll. They view America through the nuclear aircraft carrier. They view America through the Reaper drone missile.

That view has a short shelf-life.

The bind here is real, where supporting the regime with negotiations undercuts grassroots movements but airstrikes just rally people around the government they're protesting. I've always thought the democracy angle gets underplayed when everyone fixates on nukes, like people inside Iran dont have agency in all this.

It depends on trump's mood.

Are you saying we don't already have sanctions on the Supreme Leader? How is that possible? What have we been waiting for?
