I agree with you on both counts, 1. going to the summit, and 2. Ukraine should be given an invitation in DC.

Seems like a no-brainer for Biden and his team to go to the Peace Summit. Fingers crossed they do the right thing. Thanks for the summary of the issues involved.

Agree on both counts, and think it would show much foresight and leadership, both geopolitically and morally. However, given Biden’s record in these areas I am not too optimistic. That said, I would love to be proven wrong. Thank you, Mike.

I can’t understand why you believe Ukraine should be admitted into NATO. Please help me understand.

Peace will only happen if and when ALL sides meet to talk or one of the major players dies or is removed from office.

Without all the major players/leaders, it’s a not a peace negotiation or summit, but it could become a rally.

Taking NATO into Ukraine means my grandson doesn’t get to grow up. It will begin WWIII. The United States did this before by placing nuclear weapons in Turkey. In response, the USSR threatened to place nuclear weapons in Cuba. Yes, the Bay of Pigs was Initiated by the U.S, not the USSR.

If China, Russia or any other nuclear power attempted to place military bases, in particular, nuclear weapons along thousand miles of the US border with Mexico and Canada what would the US do?

If I’m missing something please indulge me!

A so-called "Zelensky Peace Plan" is not a Peace Plan. It is an Orwellian euphemism for a "Desire to assemble a group of countries who can boycott Russia, give Putin an ultimatum to leave Crimea & Donbass, then achieve a military victory over Russia, enter Crimea and punish its inhabitants by switching their schools and public services to the Ukrainian language". Mr. McFaul, can you ask Zelensky "Are you going to let the people of Crimea to keep their Russian mother tongue in public schools and government papers?" I bet $100 (I can mail them to your office in Stanford) the answer from Zelensky will be something like "Well, the citizens of Ukraine have to know the official state language". His propagandists like Podolyak and Portnikov explicitly expressed "the people of Crimea have to either adopt the Ukrainian identity (together with the language) or, if it makes them uncomfortable, leave". In other words, the Ukrainian government is planning for a cultural/linguistic genocide (prohibited by the UN in 1948) on the Crimean peninsula, and they want to get a carte blanche from other countries, including the USA, to do this. Crimean people are not immigrants on their land, they lived there forever and spoke Russian.

I question the motivation and decision making involved in drawing up the new border lines upon Ukraine’s sovereignty. Does it not make sense that adjustments or corrections should be necessary over time to more accurately reflect a peoples historic, spiritual and cultural identities.
