Wow, an invitation of 50,000 scholarships to US students to go study in China is huge! Did the press cover this? Will Stanford promote this? Even a fraction of that number would benefit both countries enormously, as both sides learn from each other. The world needs more of that now and in the future.

As usual, Mr. MCGFaul spends too much time and space tooting his own horn. I find that distracting and plan to unsubscribe.

Apparently, conferences or meetings such as A.P.E.C. are used to jawbone on different issues, though I just read news reports and could be completely wrong about this. That there was a low profile about events in Gaza and the ongoing war in Ukraine appears also to speak to the continued ignorance (or careless attitude) about the importance of these, and to the contrary a highlighting of economic and administrative benefits to Indo - Pacific home policy and their "business as usual", something that is doubtful without shady deals and "grease". I am a student who speaks mandarin, and for example, in a long time, have not even remotely entertained the thought of going to P.R.C. Also, F.D.I. and "international" investments by China in the U.S. are a myth, though the Fact Sheet and the Golden Gate Declaration show real resolutions on environment and food concerns, fair business practices, but for example, do not address distortions caused by currency reserves and the Tai wan issue, non- aligned issues and so forth. This was probably a really great conference and made believers in Bidenomics which is successful despite inflation worries and believers again in the Biden foreign policy that addresses current trade and policy issues in print. Great!
