Thank you for this captivating and inspirational talk while our friends in Ukraine continue battling against Putin. It is heartening some gains have been made in the last few days despite the increasing cold and the onset of winter that will change the Russian invasion strategy. This talk appears to be a 'hearts and minds' approach to conflict, and for a reference on this, maybe have a look at John J. Mearsheimer's book The Great Delusion that paradoxically proves what is said here. Also, in addition to sovereignty, freedoms, human rights issues, issues of again autocratic and primitive, backwards rule that threaten Ukraine, the threat of Russian conquest over that territory proposes future military and other security threats to Central and Western Europe. Support for Ukraine directly has interaction with both the battle for Ukrainian soil, and for threats to the security and sovereignty of, again, Central and Western Europe (worth saving.)

While I am inclined to believe that he is, what is the greatest evidence to you that Vladimir Putin is prepared to absorb countries like the Baltics and perhaps even parts of Poland by force should he control most or even all of Ukraine? He has left the outright threats of war to his propagandists and other jesters, whom I don't usually take seriously. I know he hates these countries with a passion, so I would not be surprised if he is gunning for revenge, which would be a major catastrophe if he actually attempted it.

This is an excellent distillation of a lengthier course with Michael McFaul that I took earlier this year. As I watched the video today (Wednesday, Nov. 15), the summit between President Biden and Xi Jinping is taking place a few miles down the road at Filoli. But most jarring was Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's public endorsement of Donald Trump, revealing that both are in Russia's pocket one way or another. What a sad commentary for our friends in Ukraine whose daily sacrifices to preserve democratic values go unnoticed by many in Washington and in the American heartland. Слава Україні!
