Few countries in the world supported our preemptive strike against Iran. That's damaging to America's reputation in the world. Maybe Trump does not care. I do.
The author clearly questions President Trump’s recent nuclear strike action against Iran, repeatedly emphasizing the importance of U.S. military allies. He also raises concerns about whether such an action was authorized by Congress in advance. In comparison, he refers to the war precedents set by Presidents Bush and Obama. At the same time, the author expresses his worries about the potential international consequences of this action.
A tiny bit off topic but my two favorite U S Ambassadors to Moscow were George Kennan who has declared persona non grata by Stalin in 1952 and Michael McFaul who left his post by choice in 2014. Not long afterward, Putin sanctioned him and ordered that he not be allowed to travel to Russia. My least favorite Moscow ambassador was Joseph Davies, the second U S ambassador to the Soviet Union appointed by FDR who served during the height of Stalin's Red Terror in the late 1930s. Even though he had Russian expert George Kennan on his staff, he ignored and disliked Russian expert Kennan and swallowed Stalin's propaganda hook, line and sinker. He even attended one of the most famous show trials and stated his opinion that the defendants got a fair trial before they were all shot in the head. Davies was a lawyer and a social friend of FDR. He had no knowledge of Russia or the Soviet Union. Davies was newly married to heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post who owned Mar-a-Lago at the time. A dreadful and now forgotten World War II propaganda film "Mission to Moscow" was based on Davies memoir. We now have a Russian speaking career foreign officer and Senate confirmed ambassador to Russia--Lynne Tracy. But she has little to do as President Trump is using Steve Witkoff as his special envoy and de facto envoy to Russia to negotiate peace in both the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran wars. Witcoff, is another lawyer without diplomatic experience. His most important credential is that he is a golf partner of the President. Witkoff has opined that the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 was not necessarily started by Russia. Those who don't know our history or that of Russia or the Middle East have no business mucking around America's foreign policy.
